FSU

My mom got her Master's and Doctorate from FSU. Guess who gave Sofia this onesie for Christmas?!?! Nathan won't let her wear it in Atlanta, so we had to take it to Puerto Rico to get some use out of it :o)

Here is a RARE occasion - Abuelito AND Abuelita together in a picture - with Sofia!!! This was at my mom's house when my dad came to pick us up on Thursday.

Hanging out at Abuelita's House

Here are some pictures taken in and around my mom's house! We had such a great time on this trip just relaxing!! FUN TIMES!! Here is the view withing walking distance from Mami's house.

Here is a neighbor's horse.

Here is Sofia trying to crawl.

Here is Sofia wearing Abuelita's hat gangsta-style!! Where did she learn that from?!?!

Here she is hanging ou with Nancy. Look at those meaty legs! YUMMY!!! And check out this video of her dancing and singing with Nancy. You can hear Sofia singing and see her bouncing as Nancy dances! TOO FUNNY!

Look at the pretty girl in that pretty dress! The dress was a gift from Linda's (Nathan's mom) teacher friend - I think her name is Katy.

Titi Rosa

My mom's aunt (my great Aunt) - Titi Rosa - had to be put in a nursing home a couple of weeks ago. It's very sad because when my grandma was living, the 2 of them used to hang out together every day. Titi Rosa would cook for my grandmother and they would watch TV together and just keep each other company. Ever since my grandmother passed away Titi Rosa has not been doing so well. Seems like she hadn't been cooking as much since she didn't have anyone to cook for and she was falling a lot more. So . . . her neices and nephews (she never got married or had any children) who live in the U.S. decided to put her in a nursing home.

She is doing amazingly well there! She really likes the food - she tells you to leave if your visit runs into dinner time!!! And my mom thinks she really likes having people to talk to. She was used to my grandma and her talking all day long! So, I guess it's all good.

We all went to visit her on Saturday. She was really happy to see us and to get to see Sofia. Here are some pictures from our visit.

Another Oceanfront Dining Experience!!

This time we were with Tio Fernan (my mom's brother), Titi Bruni (his wife), Gabby (my cousin), Mami and Nancy. This was a beautiful resort with a great restaurant close to Mami's house. There were lots of Americans there getting some sun!

Here are a couple of videos of the first sand on Sofia's feet and her first ocean swim!

Drainage Problem Resolved

We had a drainage problem in the backyard. The slope of the yard left a canal in the backyard where water would collect and the grass would stay soggy for DAYS! As you know, Atlanta has gotten very little rain over the last year, so for our yard to stay soggy in drout conditions was really bad. Imagine when it rains normally. We had the builders dig the canal a little deeper to force the water even more into the canal. Then we bought some river rocks to put in the canal. This will hopefully keep the backyard from being so muddy. Especially since the dogs have to go back there and then come back in the house with those muddy paws. YUCK!

Nathan and Doug put down 3 yards of river rocks this past weekend while Sofia and I are in Puerto Rico! Nathan says his back is killing him!! I bet Doug's is too. But the rocks look GREAT! Here are some pictures. THANKS Nathan and Doug!!!!

Oceanfront Dinner in Aguadilla

We flew down to Puerto Rico on Feb. 22nd from Atlanta. We left home at 6:00 AM and arrived in Aguadilla at 5 PM! It was a long day . . . we had a 4 hour layover in Ft. Lauderdale. But the good thing was that we flew directly into Aguadilla, which is about 3 minutes from my mom's house . . . so no long drive from San Juan! NICE!!!!

Mami and Nancy came to pick us up and took us to dinner at a restaurant on the beach in Aguadilla. We ate outside and it was just beautiful. Here are a few pictures of Sofia and Abuelita and Nancy.

Sofia and Lila are in Puerto Rico

Hi Regular Blog readers:

If you are wondering why I haven't posted in a while it's because Sofia and I are in Puerto Rico. Mami called last Tuesday and asked if we could come to Puerto Rico. She wanted to see Sofia before she left to go to Australia for a month. So . . . here we are. We came down last Friday and go back home this Friday. I'll see my dad and Aidita on Thursday. I'll post pictures when I get home. I didn't bring the cable to be able to download the pictures from my camara.

Sig Ep Wives Brunch

I went to a brunch today with Nathan's fraternity brother's wives. Nathan kept Sofia for a couple of hours while I went. We went to Atlanta Bread Company around Perimeter Mall. Dawn, Kelly, Jody Mann, Dana, Maria, Laura and one other wife who's name I can't remember were there. I laughed non-stop for 2 hours!!! It was nice to get to know them better and see them at a function that was NOT a football game. The conversation is a lot easier when everyone isn't just waiting for the football game to start. I can't wait to get to know them all better and better as we live in Atlanta longer.

GIRL Ritger Baby Shower

Deirdre's neighbor's hosted a baby shower for her on Saturday, Feb. 16th. This is Deird's 3rd baby, but it's her first girl!!!! I'm only ashamed that her closest girlfriends didn't think to host one for her first baby girl!!! Deirdre got a lot of PINK baby things! Deirdre is due March 1st, but she doesn't think she'll go that long. Her first 2 babies were born early, so she thinks this one will be early too. We'll see. Deirdre looks like she's about 4 months pregnant, but that's because she's 6'2" and has a lot of room for the baby to spread out in!!!

Stacy even came to the shower - Kelsey is a month old now and is taking a bottle well, so she was able to leave her with Alex for a couple of hours. Stacy looked GREAT for only having had a baby 1 month ago!!

We had a really nice afternoon. Here's a picture of Deird, Sofia and I after the shower.

New Friends Abby and Sophie

Sofia and I made new friends in Atlanta - Abby and Sophie!!! Sophie is 4 months old, so about 3 1/2 months younger than Sofia. We met at a La Leche League meeting back in January. I snuck and got her e-mail address from the sign in sheet and e-mailed her a couple of days later. It seemed like just from talking with her for a few minutes that day that we had a lot in common. Sophie is 100% breastfeed and doesn't take a bottle either. Also, Abby had her naturally like I did with Sofia. Abby is also practicing Attachment Parenting with Sophie, which is what we are doing with Sofia - check out Abby and Sophie in their cool wrap (the carrier she is using). It's just this long piece of fabric that you can use to carry the babies in all different kinds of positions. She just ordered a Mei Tai carrier that I'm going to look at and see if I like. I have a Maya Wrap Baby Sling and a Baby Bjorn. We use the sling around the house, but the Bjorn when we go on walks because it seems to be more sturdy when I'm carrying Sofia AND holding back 2 BIG doggies. The downfall of the Baby Bjorn is that they say that you shouldn't always carry your baby in the same position (and the Bjorn only allows for 1 position) because it could be bad for their legs/hips to always be in the same position. So hopefully Abby can show me how to use the Mei Tai and we can get one of those.

I've really enjoyed getting to hang out with Abby and Sophie. Last week we met at Abby's paren'ts house (which is very close to our house) and went for a walk on the Chattahoochee River trails close to their house. Abby's mom has been a certified La Leche League leader for 30 years and practiced attachment parenting with Abby and her brother and sisters. It was really great to get to ask her tons of questions.

Here is a picture and video of Sofia trying to play with Sophie. Sophie isn't quite old enough to reach back, but will be VERY soon. She'll be a great playmate for Sofia.

And here are a couple more pictures of the girls.

Valentine's Day with Grandmother and Doug

Linda came down from Alpharetta on Valentine's Day and took us all out to dinner. Doug came up from Palmetto too. We went to this new restaurant by our house called Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q. It was VERY good!!! Sofia had a great time too playing with Grandmother and Rubi. Here is a video clip of Rubi and Sofia kissing each other!
Grandmother fed her cereal for the first time before we left to go to dinner. She ate about half of the amount that she ate about 3 weeks ago (the last time we gave her cereal) and didn't want anymore. I was surprised, but didn't think much about it. Later that night, after we got home from dinner, Sofia threw up!!! A LOT!!! Looked like everything she had eaten all evening came back out. This was the second time that this had happened and the last time it was also after eating cereal (Nathan remembered that it was after cereal the last time!). I figured out that the pumped breastmilk that I was using to mix in with the cereal has gone bad. I moved it to the deep freezer about a month ago and when I opened up the freezer to get the milk that night it smelled fishy. I guess that smell penetrated the milk bags and made the breastmilk go bad. POOR SOFIA!!! I threw away all of the breastmilk from the freezer - all of the stored breastmilk that I had!! SO SAD!! But no point in keeping it if it's bad!! I'll just have to start pumping again to get more to mix in with her food.
Speaking of food. I tried to feed her sweet potato on Friday night. She did NOT like it at all!! Every time we put a small spoonful in her mouth she would push it back out with her tongue. Guess we'll move on to the next vegetable or fruit. I think I'm going to try pear next.

Visit with Dawn and Sean Abercrombie

Sofia and I went to Dawn and her little boy Sean's house on Wednesday, Feb. 13th. They live in Alpharetta. Dawn went to Georgia Tech. We were roommates for 1 or 2 quarters - I can't remember (getting old :o). Sean is almost 2 years old and is amazingly smart! He already speaks in complete sentences! I was just so impressed by him. Dawn is a great Mommy too. We decorated Valentine's cookies to take to Sean's daycare while we were there and Sofia made one for her daddy. Here are a few pictures from our visit.

Ileana, Neil and Diego over for Dinner

Ileana, Neil and Diego came over for dinner on Saturday night. Ileana is my stepmom Aidita's neice (so she's almost my cousin!). It was our first dinner party at our new house where we actually ate in the dining room (it's crazy how now that we have a breakfast area off of the kitchen how we NEVER use the dining room - very sad - but I was glad to use it last night). We had a really great time! We talked for a long time and Diego got to hold Sofia. He was very loving to her! Also, Diego had fun playing with Rubi and Dudley, but only for a little while. He decided that the dogs were a little too big for his taste. I guess when you are the height of Dudley, it can be a little intimidating. Dudley just wanted to lean against Diego, as usual. Diego is such a great kid. He's 4 years old and is extremely well behaved. He played with some toys that he brought and he played with Sofia's bongo drums and he watched some movies. We'll definitely be doing dinner with their family again - soon!

Here is a picture of Sofia playing with her drums too! She got them from Titi Ileana (Aidita's sister) for Christmas. NIIICEEE!!

Sofia Jumps!

Here are a couple of videos of Sofia in her Jumper (it hangs from the door frame between her playroom and the kitchen/breakfast area). In the last week she has really started to like it and jumps for about 15 minutes. It's a nice way for Mami to get dinner started!
